Traditionally Salmon fishing is done using flies and a fly rod however due to the nature of the Salmon the fly rod used is a much tougher rod with a double handle style rather than the single handed version used for catching trout.

This may be somewhat frowned upon as a style of fishing for Salmon however anglers each year enjoy great success using trotting methods on big rivers with unusual bottom baits for salmon. whole prawns for example are a great bait for salmon on the feed in rivers.

 

The end tackle is very simple just using a lightly weighted float and a hook with bait gives an effective yet simple way of fishing.
